How to Support Your Family’s Mobility Needs Over the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time for family, togetherness, and celebration, and for some families, it also means supporting loved ones with mobility needs. At GMobility, we understand the importance of addressing these needs with ease, dignity, and flexibility. Whether it’s through short-term rentals, encouraging open discussions, or providing practical tips, our goal is to ensure everyone can enjoy a comfortable, independent, and inclusive festive season.

Mobility Rentals for the Holiday Season

GMobility offers a wide selection of mobility aids for rent to provide families with short-term solutions over the holidays. From wheelchairs and scooters to bathroom aids, ramps, rollators, and walkers, our rental service provides reliable options to suit different mobility needs. To make rental easy and flexible, we accept credit card payments upfront for a four-week period, with the ability to refund any unused full weeks upon return of the items.

For the best availability, we recommend booking rentals about a week in advance. However, walk-ins are always welcome, and we’ll do our best to meet your needs.

Please keep in mind that deliveries and collections will be paused from December 24th through January 2nd, except in urgent cases.

Holiday Schedule and Limited Services

Over the holiday period, our showrooms will close on all public holidays. The Warragul showroom will be open on the following dates from 10am-2pm:

  • 27th December
  • 30th December
  • 31st December

Our Morwell and Pakenham showrooms will remain closed from 12pm on 24th December and will reopen at 9am on 2nd January.

Our Most Popular Items for the Holiday Season

During the holidays, our most sought-after rentals include wheelchairs and walking aids, which provide added support for family outings and festive events. Bathroom aids such as over-toilet frames and shower chairs are also frequently requested, ensuring safety and comfort for visiting relatives. For those hosting holiday gatherings, ramps and rollators make spaces more accessible and welcoming. These essential items help create an inclusive environment, so everyone can participate in the celebrations with ease.

Support and Education

Selecting the right mobility aid is just the beginning; ensuring families feel comfortable with the equipment is equally important. GMobility offers equipment trials for purchase items to help families find the best fit. Larger, complex items can be trialled with guidance from our Assistive Technology Specialists, often in coordination with allied health professionals like Occupational Therapists. Trials can take place in our showroom, at home, or in a clinic or hospital.

To further support comfort and ease, GMobility provides a full-service delivery option. Within our service area, we deliver equipment directly to clients’ homes, set it up, and provide clear instructions for safe, effective use. For smaller, non-complex items, we also offer courier delivery. If you have questions, our knowledgeable team is available during business hours to assist, ensuring clients have the guidance they need.

Tips for Families New to Mobility Aids

If your family is new to using mobility aids, here are a few simple tips to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable holiday season:

  1. Focus on Comfort and Ease of Use: Prioritise choosing devices that are easy to handle and comfortable for the user. Trying out equipment before holiday outings helps build familiarity and confidence.
  2. Normalise the Conversation: Open discussions about mobility aids help everyone feel at ease. Position these aids as empowering tools that enable independence, reducing any stigma around their use.
  3. Plan for Accessible Spaces: When gathering for the holidays, consider accessibility needs for venues or holiday spaces. Check ahead for ramps, accessible restrooms, and other mobility-friendly features to avoid any surprises.
  4. Encourage a Positive Attitude: Leading by example, model a positive view of mobility aids within your family. Acceptance and pride in using mobility devices can ease any discomfort family members may feel in public spaces.
  5. Practice in Advance: Try using the equipment in a variety of locations before holiday outings, such as parks or shopping centres. This practice can help build confidence for navigating holiday gatherings.
